Wolbachia strain diversity (01/10/05 John Jaenike)
Hello out there,
Does anyone know about how many distinct wsp sequences have been found across all Wolbachia strains that infect insects? Thanks.

There are currently over 900 wsp sequences deposited in the NCBI database, a good number may represent different clones from the same organism. Last time we looked in detail there were over 300 unique sequences. If anyone has or plans to do a large wsp alignment - it would be great if they could put it up on the "alignments" section of this site so that others could utilize it.
